Expert Q&A

I had a routine sonogram last week, and the girl twin had kidneys that looked slightly enlarged. My perinatologist said that the size is within normal range but on the high side. Of course, I'm worried. What could be causing this? Is there anything I can do to help her kidneys? If they are enlarged at birth, what will happen to her?
From long distance this sounds innocent to me. It's something that we watch for, but in most cases the baby will be born perfectly normal. Your doctor is mentioning it because her kidneys are the high side of normal, and he might want to follow up with another ultrasound to make sure there are no problems somewhere in the future. The key word in that sentence is "normal." You really shouldn't be worried at this point. All babies develop at different speeds, and we see an even larger range of normal when factoring in a twin pregnancy. There's nothing really you can do to change her kidney development as an expecting mom.

How accurate is a positive Down syndrome result in blood work at 15 weeks? We are expecting twins (one sack).
Please advise if it is possible to tell if the twin pregnancy will be preterm by measuring the belly size and water bag being big by ultrasound finding. Also if this is OK, then what kind of precautions should we take and what are the chances for survival?
