Expert Q&A

My husband and I have been trying for a family for about a year and a half now. We have had two miscarriages in this time. We have both been tested and were told the tests were OK. We are now trying again. I have heard some people say that a pregnancy after a miscarriage increases your chance of having twins. Is this true (without fertility medications)?
In view of the fact that you have had two spontaneous miscarriages, I would recommend that you seek consultation with a reproductive endocrinologist who can do in depth testing to include: 1) genetic factors 2) uterine factors 3) hormonal factors 4) immune factors and 5) microbial factors.
There is no data that would suggest that pregnancy after a miscarriage would increase your chances of having twins without the use of ovulation induction medication.
I wish you the best.
