Parents, Support Each Other

How to Show Appreciation to Fellow Moms and Dads

"Encouragement from other parents helps me to keep doing the right thing," Jackson says. "The hard thing ... which is the daily-ness of parenting."

We've all been there, and wouldn't it have been nice if someone had supported us? asks Wilhelm. "Parenting is tough work," she says. "Let's help one another."

We Share a Common Goal

If you strip away the details that can divide us as parents, aren't we all working towards the same goal? "Most parents hope their children turn out to be self-sufficient individuals who are an asset to society," says Pamela Wilhelm from Rockmart, Ga. "We all want our children to grow up to be good people, but each of us may have different ways of achieving that goal. There are countless good ways to raise a child and we should recognize that, and try to see the parent's heart in how they rear their own child."

We all want what is best for our children. We all try to do our best with the knowledge and resources we have available to us. If we can learn to see other parents as players on the same team instead of opponents, it will be easier to encourage and support each other.

"Look at other parents as fellow students, and share your knowledge," says Dr. Jeff Richards.
