If you prefer your twins receive similar or combined gifts, you can still use a few tricks to offer them some individuality. Similar or identical gifts can be packaged and wrapped differently. Similar gifts may have slightly different colors or complimenting abilities. "Our boys have enjoyed receiving computer games that highlight their personalities," says Wodarski. "They're both receiving a gift that is the same size and value, but it's personalized toward each of them."

Talking with your twins to determine how they feel about having their birthdays or special events combined can save everyone a great deal of stress and frustration. "Taking your cues from your children will help parents determine the best method to honor their children's birthdays or special occasions," says Dr. Sproul.

"As long as both kids know that everyone sees them as two people instead of one, it'll be a great party," says Matthew Corona.
