You've Got Heart!
Valentine's Day Gifts to Make with Your Kids
By Kymberly Pratt
- A small picture of your child or yourself
- Markers
- Scissors
- White tacky glue or tape
- Sequins, glitter, etc.
- Construction paper
Here's what you do:
You are going to need two hearts that are about five inches tall. The easiest way to do this is to take two pieces of square paper and fold them in half. Draw half a heart on the fold and cut it out. When you unfold the paper, you should have two perfect hearts. You can cut a small border off one of the hearts and glue the smaller one on top of the larger one.
Take the picture and decide which part you want to show on your card. You will use your cut-out hearts as a guide. Carefully cut the picture into a smaller heart shape and glue it in the middle of the two hearts.
Take a large uncut piece of construction paper and fold it in half to make the actual card. Decorate the front of the card with whatever you might have, such as glitter, sequins, etc. Make sure to write "I Love You" on the front!
Cut out two strips of paper approximately 1x8 inches wide. It's OK if they are not exact. You will want to lay them perpendicular to each other and tape them together so they don't move. Fold them using an accordion-type fold until you are out of paper. This should make a fun "springy" strip for your card.
Tape the strip to the inside of the card and the other end of the strip to the heart with the picture on it. Now when you open the card, your photo heart should jump out at you. Have fun with it!
