Month by Month
Celebrating and Pampering Your Pregnant Wife By Mark Stackpole
Many couples wait until this, the end of the first trimester, before breathing a sigh of relief and allowing themselves to relax and enjoy this special time a little bit. Because relaxation and enjoyment are the theme this month, it is time to play bartender and mix up her favorite "mocktail." Lots of her favorite drinks can be delicious and alcohol-free, so get creative.
Val Azcona of Rancho Penasquitos, Calif., is expecting her first child and missing her favorite adult beverage. "Sometimes after a long, stressful day, we'll sit down and have a nice mixed drink to unwind," she says. "I'll order a cosmo and my husband knows to bring me some Gatorade in a martini glass." Shake it up (or stir it up, if she prefers) and let her tell you what's on her mind. Being a good bartender is a lot like being a good husband.
As the mother of two daughters, Dawn Riley of San Jose, Calif., knows what women want. "We never get tired of hearing how beautiful we are, especially when we might not be feeling it," she says. Take her shopping for a stylish maternity outfit, and keep letting her know how sexy she is. (And my wife, Charlotte, would like to add that while you're out, get her a body pillow. She will thank you. But be prepared to feel a little jealous when she gives it a name and holds it tight when she sleeps. Trust me. "Sam" and I never quite got alon.)
