Baby Signs

A Conversation Creating Lasting Bonds

By Nancy Cadjan, Certified Baby Sign Instructor

Don't worry that you have to learn a new language. A handful of signs is all you need. If you like signing, you can learn more. There are probably classes in your area with instructors who can teach you more signs, and several areas have established playgroups or "Sing and Sign" classes to attend.

For more information, visit Sign Babies. The Web site has a wealth of information on baby signing including guides and articles to help parents. There is an online forum where you can ask questions and pictures of babies signing. In addition, the Sign Babies store carries tested products for baby signing based on ASL signs. Using ASL signs gives your child a start at learning the third most-used language in the United States (English and Spanish are first).

For a list of classes and help finding a certified baby signing instructor near you, visit SIGN with Your BABY.

For support, visit www.SigningBaby.com. One of the most comprehensive sites for infant sign language resources and products, it also sponsors a chat group.
